Extended Care at Gray Wolf Ranch

Gray Wolf’s Extended Care program is ideal for individuals who have been through Primary Care at Gray Wolf Ranch or elsewhere and have been introduced to addiction treatment. Our program offers a unique recovery model that allows residents to have one foot in the “real world” and one foot in a unique treatment program while they develop the life skills to live a sober and fulfilling life.

A typical stay in Gray Wolf’s Extended Care program is five months. During that time, each resident works on a personalized treatment care plan that is continuously assessed and altered according to his progress, his areas of interest, and his ongoing needs. There is a strong emphasis on helping residents develop a healthy motivation for recovery along with continued work on developing and strengthening personal relationships, restoring family relationships, and developing healthy friendships. Residents learn to manage cravings and urges to use chemicals or other negative behaviors and return to the community as healthy and productive citizens.

Through the valuable partnerships we have cultivated in the Port Townsend community, the young men can participate in employment, internships and/or volunteer services to pay forward the benefits of recovery, develop new interests and hobbies, and practice new relationship skills. They also have access to educational opportunities, such as working toward a high school diploma or taking college courses and participate in an extensive experiential program centered around wilderness treks under the guidance of qualified staff.

Day in the Life

“In the battle to overcome addiction, an understanding of disease and recovery theory (gained in Primary Care) is important. Gray Wolf Ranch (Extended Care program) has been and will continue to be the experience and the environment to turn understanding into action, theory into practice.”
