Trip Description: The Whistler/Blackcomb Resort (www.whistlerblackcomb.com)
is a world-renowned destination for winter sports and will be hosting
the alpine events for the Winter Olympics in 2010. The resort is immense
with a tremendous variety of terrain that will fit the needs and meet
the skill level of any skier or rider. You will find it a challenge to
cover every run even during our 5 days on the slopes and you will certainly
have plenty of fun enroute!
We’ll begin with a 1:00 PM departure from Port Townsend on Saturday,
March 15 and drive to Whistler (about 4 hours) to settle into the
locale. Our lodging is a large house with amenities in the Northern
Lights area adjacent to the ski area – see http://www.whistlerplatinum.com/booking/details.php?id=462.
Except for meals you may decide to partake at local restaurants, food will be provided at the house. After 5 nights of lodging and almost 5 full days of cruising the slopes, we’ll depart early afternoon on March 20 for the return to Port Townsend. For those flying out from Seattle please book a flight from 8 PM or later on Thursday, March 20 or on the following day.
U.S./Canada Border Crossing: On the drive to Whistler
we will cross the
border into British Columbia and will be required to present
a passport.
Physical Activity: Exertion levels with be significant
due to the physical
nature or snowboarding and skiing. All participants
must complete a medical history form to attend. If you have restrictions
relative to physical activity please check with your physician before
the trip.
Logistics & Schedule: All participants must arrive
in Port Townsend prior to the 1 PM departure on March 15.
Clothing & Equipment: If you are in need of any
clothing and gear from the Trek Center for the trip it is possible to
check these items out. Please contact Equipment Manager Chase Glenn
with a list of the gear you will need along with sizing so we can pack
this gear prior to your departure. We have mittens/overmitts, wind gear,
goggles and fleece gear to loan. We have hats, polypro gloves, Patagonia
fleece (with GWR logo), long underwear and socks for purchase.
Travel Arrangements: If you need assistance with flights
or ground transportation from Seattle (SeaTac Airport, www.seatac.org),

or (360) 385-6250. If you arrive in Port Townsend by public transportation
we can facilitate transport from town to GWR on DATE before our
departure provided we have prior notice.
Cost:$1,250 per person.
Includes transportation from PT to Whistler/Blackcomb and return, food
while at the resort, lodging and 5 days of lift tickets. The tuition
does not ski/snowboard rental, include lodging in Port Townsend, or
transportation to and from the airport. Please contact us if you are

Deposit: Tuition In Full is due at time of Registration
Lodging: If you require lodging the night before the
trek you can either lodge in town (check www.ptguide.com) or at the
Wolf’s
Den. Please contact us if you would like to stay at the Den so we can
confirm space for you there on needed dates.
Trek Risks: As is always the case with outdoor adventures,
there will be inherent risks associated with the trip’s activities.
These risks cannot be eliminated without destroying the fundamental
qualities of the activities. You will be assuming all risks if you
choose to participate. Also, you should verify with your family physician
or other health care provider that you will be able to participate
in this trek without putting your health at risk.
