FATHER AND SON ROGUE RIVER TREK

rafting

August 29-September 3, 2008

Registration Deadline: August 1, 2008

Trip Description: The crown-jewel of Northwest Rafting, the Wild & Scenic Rogue is one of the best all-around river trips in North America.  Plentiful wildlife, outstanding forest mountain scenery and numerous rollicking rapids deliver an unmatched wilderness adventure experience and a perfect locale to reunite with other GWR alumni and their dads.

Explore crystal clear side creeks on an adventure hike to find secluded and idyllic fern-hung swimming holes.  Learn to “body surf” the rapids or simply enjoy the peace and quiet during golden canyon sunsets and misty mountain mornings.  After a full day of playing on the river and exploring the surrounding area, we’ll swap stories around the fire while refueling with tasty guide-prepared meals.

We will lodge at the Galice Resort near Grants Pass Oregon on August 29th where we will meet our guides the next morning and travel to the put-in.  We will be on the river for 4 days and 3 nights prior to returning to the Galice Lodge for our final night together September 2nd.

lake raftingPhysical Activity: Prior physical conditioning is recommended because this trek does require physical exertion. Paddling is good exercise and days will be full of activity. If you have any questions about the level of fitness required, please do not hesitate to give Craig a call.

Logistics & Schedule: Participants have 2 transportation options for the trip:

For Option 1, Meet us in Port Townsend and drive to Galice, Oregon (about an 8 hour drive), where we will lodge the night before our put-in.  For Option 1 we will be leaving GWR at 8 AM on Friday, August 29.  Please arrive the evening before – we will issue any needed gear at 5 PM on August 28.  On Wednesday September 3, we will return to Port Townsend arriving early evening.

For Option 2, you can meet us at the Galice Lodge August 29th by flying directly to Medford, Oregon and take a shuttle  (High Country Shuttle 888-203-8502) or rent a car for the 1 hour drive to Galice.  On Wednesday September 2, you can choose to catch an outgoing flight from Medford anytime after 8:00 PM or dine and lodge with the group in Galice and fly out the next morning.

Please Note: If flying out of Seattle on September 3, please schedule flights for anytime after 6pm.
