Wolf Tracks Calendar

by David Lewis,
Program Director

During this reflective time of year, I believe it is so important to offer gratitude to those who have enriched our lives.

First, we thank you, our residents. You breathe life into what we do. Without you, GWR would be just a big house. Your energy, wit, and commitment make my job more worthwhile everyday. I greatly respect the amount of personal sacrifice it takes for you to commit to coming here.

Second, we thank you, the parents of our residents. The immense amount of trust that you place in us is inspiring. We see the pain, fear, and frustration that go along with putting your child in someone else's care. It's a reminder to us of the awesome responsibility that we hold in your lives.

Third, we thank you, our referents. It has truly been exciting building the relationships we have with you. I respect the professionalism and high level of care you offer. The young men who come here speak highly of your good work.

Fourth, we thank you, our staff, for your commitment, enthusiasm, and hard work. Without you, we could not do what we do.

Gratitude also comes from looking at our successes during the past year. For example, several expansion projects are underway as we continue to meet our residents' needs. We will be adding on to the Wolf's Den, our sober house for graduates who wish to stay in Port Townsend, allowing us to accommodate two more residents. Construction is scheduled to be completed by March of 2001.

Our trek center is also growing. Design is underway for a 500 square-foot staging area adjacent to the center to allow for trek preparation protected from the elements. Finally, and perhaps most excitedly, a Gray Wolf facility for young women is moving closer to reality. The Gray Wolf Board of Directors is scheduled to consider approving the research and development phase for this project in 2001.

The holidays mean so many things to so many people. For all of us at Gray Wolf Ranch, they mean looking back at what we've accomplished during the past year and being grateful for the people who entrust us to do our work. It also means passing on our best wishes during this season to all who have become part of us.
