Peter Boeschenstein

Welcome to the fall/winter issue of Pathfinder. In the recovery community, anniversaries have a special meaning. Each year of sobriety is marked by a special chip. Although we live one day at a time and sometimes minute by minute these chips are critical and cherished markers of our progress. They help us remember where we have come from and inspire us to keep moving forward. The Ranch has recently accepted its 10-year chip, and we are grateful for all we have been able to accomplish over the last decade. We admitted our first resident on August 18, 1997. Since that time, 750 young men have been in residence at Gray Wolf. We have blossomed into a mature program with a solid reputation and a proven commitment to high quality care for residents and their families. With the extraordinary support and hard work of our residents, families, staff and referents, Gray Wolf continues to serve its mission with clarity and purpose. Thank you for helping us achieve this milestone. We have not stopped—and will not stop—learning and growing.

As we celebrate 10 years of helping chemically dependent young men, we find ourselves saying goodbye to a staff member who has been here since the early days of Gray Wolf: Peter Lack. Peter joined the staff at GWR on September 10, 1998. He had been working as a CD Tech at Hazelden Center for Youth and Families in Plymouth, MN.

It soon became apparent that his talents and abilities went far beyond the role and responsibilities of a Tech – he had all the best ingredients to be an exceptional counselor. He took up the challenge and began his long tenure with us, sharing a remarkable gift for helping young men get sober. Peter, to say we will miss you is an understatement! Thank you for all you have done for the residents and staff at Gray Wolf!

Saying goodbye to one person means saying hello to another. Jud Haynes, one of Gray Wolf's CD Techs has shown himself to have a real talent for working with our residents. Jud has a comprehensive understanding of the Twelve Steps and knows how to apply them especially in a treatment setting. He also loves the outdoors and trekking. We realized that the perfect person was already here.

Jud will participate in a counselor training residency at the Hazelden Foundation in MN. He will return to Gray Wolf and work as a counselor under Kris Kampf’s supervision while he finishes the academic work and other requirements to complete his Chemical Dependency Professional credential.

We are pleased to have Jud on board and hope that his stay with us is as long and fruitful as his predecessor, Peter Lack.
