FROM THE GWR KITCHEN
Nothing warms the soul more than trays of freshly baked cookies and a soul-comforting meal. One of the key components of clean living is a balanced, satisfying diet that makes eating a pleasure. So it probably comes as no surprise that the dining room and kitchen at Gray Wolf Ranch are an essential part of life for the residents. Many of the young men at Gray Wolf have abused their bodies and their minds while using drugs and alcohol, so an important element of the educational process at the Ranch is learning to appreciate the comforting and sustaining qualities of properly prepared food.
After long hard days at work or school, residents return home to the tantalizing smells wafting from the kitchen, where they take turns assisting Culinary Institute of America-trained Chef Scott Molyneaux, learning culinary skills that will last a lifetime. Meals emphasize fresh and seasonal offerings and take advantage of the bounty of products available in the Pacific Northwest. As much as possible, local produce is purchased daily and menus are crafted to highlight the day’s seasonal offerings. The Port Townsend area is blessed with many small organic farms that have incredibly long growing seasons due to the mild marine climate. In addition, the Ranch boasts its own organic garden where vegetables, herbs, greens, and berries are grown and used to create healthy, wholesome meals.
