FAQ
WHAT SHOULD I BRING FOR LIFE IN
PORT TOWNSEND?

The following items are provided to be suggestions for residents at Gray Wolf Ranch. If you are unable to obtain these items we will help you obtain necessary gear/clothing upon admission to GWR.

• (3-5) pairs of pants
• shirts, short sleeve and long sleeve
• (2) pairs of shorts
• (1) bathing suit
• street shoes/athletic shoes
• sweaters/sweat shirts
• warm jacket
• rain jacket & rain pants
• warm hat/gloves for winter
• toiletries

WHAT PERSONAL ITEMS MAY I BRING?
• alarm clock
• CD player
• personal listening device
• photos
• own music
• musical instrument

SMOKING ALLOWED?
• In designated areas. Must be 18.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO GO ON TREKS?

1) Residents must provide their own:
• fast drying shorts (1 pair) no cotton
• 1 T-shirt (may be cotton)
• camp shoes (must be sneakers)
• sun-hat (ball cap)
• lighter
• toiletries (tooth brush, floss, etc.) no heavy items!

2) The following items may be purchased at the Trek Center on issue day,
or you may supply your own. If you do not have these items by issue day,
you may be required to purchase them from GWR. (Our prices are
comparable, if not cheaper than what you can find in town).

• wool socks (3 pairs)
• liner socks (2 pairs)
• polypropylene long underwear (tops and bottoms)
• warm hat
• warm gloves and/or mittens
• sunglasses
• sunscreen
• water bottle

3) The following items are supplied no charge. You may bring your own equipment if it is approved by your Trek Leader.

Clothing: rain jacket and pants; wind shirt and pants; fleece jackets, vests and pants; headlamps, hiking boots

Equipment: backpacks, sleeping bag, sleeping pad

Group gear:tents or tarps, stoves, cooking gear, water purification tablets, hand sanitizer, repair materials, first aid kits

Note: Check with your Trek Leader if you wish to bring anything that is not on this list. Cameras and light books are generally permissible. Radios or disk-men are not. Swiss-Army type pocketknives are OK, anything larger is not.

NO COTTON Cotton is the most effective material for cooling the body and takes forever to dry when it gets wet. With the exception of a T-shirt in summer, it is a poor choice to bring cotton into the backcountry.

ARE THERE LOCAL AA/NA 12-STEP MEETINGS IN
PORT TOWSEND?

Yes, Port Townsend has an active recovery community full of young people. The Alanon club has five 12-Step meetings every day and is located in downtown Port Townsend within walking distance from our Learning Center.

WHAT ABOUT TRANSPORTATION IN AND AROUND PORT TOWNSEND?
Gray Wolf Ranch provides all transportation to and from jobs, school and community service projects. Residents are dropped off and picked up by a GWR staff member in one of our vans. We also have a fleet of bicycles available to be used for transportation and for recreation.

All residents receive a membership to the Port Townsend Athletic Club
